A Presentation about the history of the Shropshire Lesbian & Gay Switchboard, which was inspired by London Switchboard (anonymous telephone advisory service for the LGBT community). A group of volunteers set up a Shropshire Switchboard, to provide a vital lifeline for local isolated rural LGBT+ communities; an amazing achievement in 1977. The Switchboard took thousands of calls during its 25-years of operation, and forms a significant part of Shropshire’s rich LGBTQ+ history.
By 2000, most LGBTQ+ Switchboards had ceased operation, however, Switchboard LGBT + Helpline continues providing a confidential service on; 0300 330 0630
